The Patterns are now called 'Ingredients'. Some of the Ingredients have become Tools'.

Create a new content type called 'Tool':

Title
Number (sequential: currently 21 of them)
Description (will include text and photos)
Related ingredient (2 way node relationship)

Relationships:

At this point, Rob thinks that it's a one to one relationship between tools and ingredients, but it's possible to be a one (tool) to many (ingredients) relationship or many to many. It's emergent.

The tools need to be related to the 'stage' of the ingredients. See #265 and #266 so that:

we can see them in a list along with the patterns
we can see 'tools by stage' views/blocks in ingredients section and landing pages for stages

At individual tools page we need to see 'related ingredient(s)' reflecting the relationship.

The news RSS feed displays a full list of all the themes an item is categorised by in front of the item itself. This basically therefore publishes all the 'theme' metadata before the content. Not the desired effect. Can't see how to make it into:

When the changes became apparent, Ed deleted all the old patterns. Then added all the temporary content into them with Helen just in case they would be needed. Now Ed will be adding the first wave of final content back into the 'Ingredients' on Wednesday 22 June. Ed has sent Jim the sample of the book to get an idea.

Getting a bunch of this done by 22/06 09:00 would be great; we could get feedback quickly for iterative work.

#271: Social Reporting blogs and portal

Transition Network are launching a social reporting pilot project in September to run for three months. It's all rather cutting edge and hip to the max. Charlotte Du Cann, who runs this: http://transitionnorwich.blogspot.com/ is our editor. From now on 'SR' means 'Social Reporting' and 'SRs' is 'Social Reporters'.

It's about telling the inside story of being in Transition, to complement the currently very explicit knowledge forms on the site. And it's the beginning of an alternative news/story network, using a mix of citizen journalism editorial style, and storytelling approach. NB: there's a para below about another branch of storytelling which may want to share the story portal with the SRs in 2012.

The pilot will be 12 bloggers around the UK (and probably some outside) who will blog 2 or 3 times per month each. There will be an editor, who will write posts, particularly monthly round-ups. There will also be guest editors, who may write weekly round-ups (it is assumed that the guest editors can use the editor's blog). At the end of the pilot, we will do a lessons learned reflection to work out whether to keep it going, and how to open it up to others. We cannot assume to have enhancement budget at that point, so all work done now will be for the pilot, and quite probably for the roll-out.

We will use the current blog set up as it's fine. SR posts can go into the /blogs page and feeds and blocks, but they also need to go to a separate 'portal' called "stories.transitionnetwork.org" which needs its own stuff outlined below, and could have a slightly cooler look and feel (this can be a trial for a groovier design if that's useful to Laura).

There is an overlap here with /blogs which we generate and aggregate. 'SR' is a specific type of post however, which is technically a subset of /blogs, but semantically quite different.

Beyond the pilot, if suitable, we will want to add other SRs easily off the main platform. And if possible, have an option to aggregate into the SR workflow.

Also, depending on how things pan out, there is another type of 'Storytelling' - the 'mythical' style, which may get project funding next year. This is a project to teach schoolkids about 'mythical' style storytelling (as opposed to our 'citizen journalism' approach). So there may well be other users wanting blog style tools, which will fit into the 'stories.tn.org' portal (ie there may be two story-esque blog subsets in 2012)...

Social Reporters (SR):

standard blog technology but semantically different so needs to work with the existing blog views as well as new SR ones
new user type? Social Reporter: gives a blog to the user. That blog feeds into /blogs and the SR portal

The Transition Initiatives map supports dynamically updating the URL to include the latitude, longitude and zoom level. This allows browser Back functionality to display the same historical map view, instead of resetting to a world view. Also links can be copied and used on other web pages to link to a specific view of the map.

#245: Profile editing bugs

Some users are experiencing strange anomalies when editing initiative profiles: in one specific example

the initiative goes to unpublished (they CANNOT do this themselves so it's not their error)
they are being presented with a captcha (mollom is set to captcha only on ini profiles)
having completed the captcha they get the 'profile updated' message (and the ini profile is unpublished), and then can't access it (as it's unpublished, I presume)
got this error at one point:

#250: Changes to 'Tools'

Tools will need to 'fit' into the Ingredients' stages. E.g. Tool 1 needs to be represented in stage #1 of Ingredients. In Rob's view it will be presented as embedded in the list of Ingredients page. We might be able to do something cooler with 'related tools' block for the ingredients' stages.

Editor needs to be able to add a photo to the tool which then shows up neatly in the tool page (as per ingredients) with a caption box

members are being wiped off the list of members. Ed, I don't know what's happening, but basically all the members from Paredes em Transição (but me and my wife - go figure that!) were wiped out from the member listing!!!

Vanda Lopes or Luis Carvalho were both on it - have disappeared...

#287: Live Server Load

Currently it's though the roof (anything over 4 and it's maxed out, it has 4 processors):

load average: 43.63, 33.84, 18.85

This could be because of things Jim is doing combined with the GA import that is running but I'm seeing a *lot* of apache processes so it seems to be combined with a spike in traffic.

I'm keen to migrate the site onto a faster server :-)
