#262: US users adding Ini profiles through the US site

This is *the* big job for phase 4. The US is a pilot for other countries, and other content types. The aim is for TN to be able to publish project directory on TI sites, and enable anyone to add a project via the TI sites in the long term.

US user can add an ini profile to the US site which is also added to the TN directory

US site has a special map and directory view of US inis only (both muller and official)

US user can edit the ini profile via the US site (possibly not on TN site)

US user account: with TN or TUS? tbd

Creation of a 'slimline' user acct showing only 'critical data'?

Creation of a 'slimline' ini profile showing only'critical data'?

This is a pilot for other countries in the future

This process will be used in some way to enable anyone to add project information from and through TI sites

Fiddle with slimline user accounts and/or use third party process a la facebook/google/yahoo accts?

US has a US-only map view of users who are speakers

The user who has added a pse submission which has been approved cannot then edit the project profile when it has been approved. The webmaster who approved it can edit it.

This is not right - the user who added the pse submission which then got turned into a project needs to be the project owner.

The new project is set to the correct author. But that author doesn't have edit rights.

#364: Migrate from SVN to Git

SVN smells. Git rules.

OK, so we need to get a publicly available Git repo in place and move to a modern workflow after importing the existing SVN stuff.

Urgent tasks:

Chris: Tell me where you want to put the master repo? In kiwi:/web or somewhere else?

Chris: add Trac Git plugin: http://trac-hacks.org/wiki/GitPlugin

Jim: import from svn repo to new git master using attached users mapping and this process: http://www.jonmaddox.com/2008/03/05/cleanly-migrate-your-subversion-repository-to-a-git-repository/ (except it's git svn not git-svn per the article)

Jim & Chris: look into best way to clone the repo over the existing structure without affecting the LIVE site

Then later:

Jim: look at best workflow practices for importing direct from Drupal.org for core and contrib, plus managing the code in a multi-developer environment.

Jim: update documentation with new Git workflow

Chris: once proven to work, remove SVN cruft from sites directories.

The rough plan:

A new Transition git master repository lives on Kiwi as the SVN repo does today.

Developers clone it onto their machine, do changes, push/commit them back to master

DEV and TEST sites use a plain git pull from the master

LIVE uses tagged releases only.

Comments, issues, ideas?

Define a project item's IA.

start with very minimal, core, or slimline data item that can be expanded upon at a later date in the project and/or the user experience

work done to date by Jim as starting point: a 'slimline' or 'core' item: quick and easy to add, minimal detail as follows: - minimal amount of required information to minimise waffle and moderate-able info

include some form of web standard vocabulary/ISO/something we can share with others (e.g. Project Dirt, Transition Drupal, GEN database, Wiser Earth)

item status to represent 'approved', 'pre-approved', 'transition', 'other' project item statuses (see moderation points below)

This should result in things being faster, however there are some potential new issues that it would create, see for example The perils of InnoDB with Debian and startup scripts.

There is also an issue with the one !InnoDB table on kiwi which will need investigation and fixing, the dev Mediawiki database backup fails each night, this is the error:

Warning: mysqldump: Got error: 1286: Unknown table engine 'InnoDB' when using LOCK TABLES
Warning: Failed to dump mysql databases transwiki

#397: Live server RAM and disk upgrade

The live server is all set to have the additional 1GB of RAM added to it, it just needs a reboot at an appropriate time for this to become available. Once it's available configurations changes will be needed to Apache, Varnish etc to enable applications to make use of it.

In addition to upgrading the RAM we have made a new 15GB partition available to the virtual machine (it'll only appear after a reboot) with the intention of using this for the !MySQL databases. This partition is on a pair of mirrored SCSI disks, the rest of the virtual machine is on a pair of SATA disks.

A quick test of the new partition disk speeds:

hdparm -tT /dev/FastDisk/quince-var-lib-mysql
/dev/FastDisk/quince-var-lib-mysql:
Timing cached reads: 3626 MB in 2.00 seconds = 1815.54 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 408 MB in 3.01 seconds = 135.60 MB/sec

Compared to the SATA disks:

hdparm -tT /dev/xvda2
/dev/xvda2:
Timing cached reads: 1998 MB in 2.00 seconds = 999.00 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 92 MB in 3.03 seconds = 30.34 MB/sec

The faster partition and the switch to !InodeDB, see ticket:396 should, hopefully, result in dramatic performance improvement for !MySQL.

Based on:

https://wiki.transitionnetwork.org/Sharing_Engine/Jim_Laura_meeting_1

JK has made the HTML container, initial CSS, and jQuery gubbins to make it all work. This allows the two widgets to be tested and developed accordingly.

To do:

LW to comment on structure/behaviour

ALL to test in various browsers/devices and report back

Code to be converted into Drupal module

Add to Git

Since the widget will need to be customised for the site it lives in (at a basic level), module will need to allow generation based on user's TN.org account

Testing!

Initial code attached, please test!

No submit button - Press return - submit button appears

--form validation stuff--

Change the title to 'truce's project 2' and press return (submit & button is not there again)

Proceed - and get to the thank you page."

I've noticed this too, it's because the submit button doesn't seem to be counted by the jsPane thingy as being important...

#445: Make PSE submissions their own CT rather than using Projects

It turns out the approach I went for originally to save a little work cost us more in the long run, so we need a part of the PSE rebuilt...

Ideally we'd get the PSE to submit a new content type and map the submission back to a 'proper' project when the moderator accepts.

Since I've already written the code to take another form and convert to a Project, I might as well make the new CT plug into the existing stuff.

All the work I've done so far is modular, and able to be tweaked and reused...

As is the code that 'accepts' a project during moderation.

So the changes to fix the issues in several other tickets are:

Add a new CT called 'PSE submission', set up permissions accordingly.

Change existing moderations views to use the new CT.

Move the 'Needs Moderation' field from Projects to PSE submission CT

Various small code fixes.

Testing.

This makes the following tickets become obsolete/duplicates of this: #428, #430, #444, #439 -- will update them accordingly.

I'll make a start now, finish up tomorrow.

#478: Import TN.org site from Quince to Puffin

This ticket is to log/document steps in the process of importing TN.org onto the new Puffin server.

Current imported site at: http://newlive.puffin.webarch.net/

Import Process

This needs Part A of Transfer live TN.org site to Puffin before continuing.

Run Quince to Puffin rsync script to get Drupal files.

Make 'Transition Network XXX' platform from the latest makefile per BOA Server page.

Create an empty site on platform called 'www.transitionnetwork.org' with aliases for dev.newlive.puffin.webarch.net, newlive.puffin.webarch.net, and dev.www.transitionnetwork.org (dev.newlive... ones will go after launch).

SSH to Puffin and replace the default files folder with symlink to the one imported:

totn
cd static/transition-network-d6-XXX/sites/transitionnetwork.org
rm -R files
ln -s ~/static/sites/transitionnetwork.org-PROD/files/

Use one-time login link sent to me but replacing transitionnetwork.org with dev.newlive.puffin.webarch.net in url.

Enable Backup and Migrate module, use to import DB backup from Quince TN.org present in the Backup & Migrate manual folder.

drush @www.transitionnetwork.org en backup_migrate

(white screen of death, expected)

Run following as 'tn' to remove unneeded modules, then clear registry and caches, then update database for module/core updates:

drush @www.transitionnetwork.org rr
drush @www.transitionnetwork.org updb
drush @www.transitionnetwork.org en reroute_email environment_indicator robotstxt

Check site is ok.

Double-migrate per http://omega8.cc/import-your-sites-to-aegir-in-8-easy-steps-109#hint-8 (migrate site to 'rename.transitionnetwork.org', then back to 'www.transitionnetwork.org')

add puffin_server_override_settings_set_environment('Production'); to the local.settings.php file to set environment to test mode (no emails).

Set logo and favicon admin/build/themes/settings/transition2 (replace 'default' with 'www.transitionnetwork.org')

Change 443 Session settings to force HTTPS for logged in users.

Run developer tests on site, email all to begin testing before decision on DNS switch.

Further to #466 there are some things to tweak on Puffin. Thought I'd put the little ones in this ticket...

Bash autocompletes don't really work with tab for apt-get, service, some filename options etc... miss that a lot!

Users don't seem to be auto-logged out once in via ssh. I've had my pc standby and the connection drop, but the logins I had don't seem to have been killed. According to http://cgp.master.puffin.webarch.net/host.php?h=puffin.webarch.net there are 3 users when I have only 1 session active. Are these yours or from old screens?

Per other tickets, SSL setup certs now work (see ticket:478#comment:15), the actual secure redirects within Drupal are still to do. This is a blocker for now...

See:

Backgound: Do I need an extra IP address in order to deploy an ssl certificate?

More: Auto Forward to https with BOA

Best option?: Use extra config with new "/data/conf/override.global.inc/" file

(SLOW) Drupal module: Carry on using 443 Session

What do you think is best, Chris? My vote is for 3, with 4 as backup...

We want this to work for the beta testers and every web point of contact going forward. Then we can assume it will work for anyone who is a web point of contact. In fact, once we have done this, the nag block described below will be there forever (until Ed removes it if they project doesn't work out).

RULE: Widget owners need to be the web points of contact for Transition Initiative Profiles on TN.org.

STEPS:

user receive an email with a link to login

user login and go to their user account page

user sees a block and clicks on the button in a nag block at the top of the right hand column like the 'add your project/initiative' block in other places: 'Want to add the projects widget to your website? <br> Click this button to set your permissions <button>' - !NB Ed needs to be able to edit this!

user goes to page with (1) pre-ticked widget owners mail chimp subscription and text 'please keep me up to date with changes to widget code and other related updates (no spam, we promise). Widget code will change so please don't opt out of this - we will need to update you' and (2) button for user to click to confirm that they want to be a widget owner which sets their role to 'widget owner' with the text 'Click this button to confirm that you want to be a widget owner. Agreeing to this means that you agree with the <link to T&Cs> Transition Network website terms and conditions</link to T&Cs>.'.

user goes to their user account page in the projects moderation tab - where they will see the 'not got a project widget yet? click to get one here…' link

The site's evolution and meandering path towards its current state has left many of the content types and fields having names that do not match their function, or are slightly inaccurate etc.

E.g. field_profile_related = "For initiative"

Note the text name shown to users is fine, it's the machine name that's a mess or unclear. There are lots of these around the site.

E.g. initiative_event = "Community Event"

Again, now we have initiative_event_external for "Initiative Event" (see #153), it's a mess.

Content types can be renamed with knock-on effects in Views, Context and a few other modules.

CCK fields can be renamed with http://drupal.org/project/cck_field_rename

Not super important, but certainly a consideration going forward as the site is moving slowly but surely away from 'self documenting'.

TI webmaster can create one/multiple widgets, but not then view/edit them.

TI web masters need to be able to see the widget they've got on their sites and change it if necessary.

ie - they go to a page with a list of their widgets

User gets this when trying to update profile: Looks like something is spilling out of the projects summary form - adding to PSE as it's connected...

JulianBriggs? (https://www.transitionnetwork.org/users/julianbriggs) sent a

Just updated my profile and got this:

You specified that the summary should not be shown when this post is
displayed in full view. This setting has been ignored since you have not
defined a summary for the post. (To define a summary, insert the delimiter
"" (without the quotes) in the Body of the post to indicate the
end of the summary and the start of the main content.)

After closing the widget with the close button (very nice), the user returns back to the TI site. And whatever. But they remain logged into the TN site. There is no function, either automatic or as an option to log out when leaving the widget.

If possible, it is best if closing the widget logs them out.

Possible?

I realise that not many users of Transition sites will be running with NoScript, but if they do they will find they have clearclick warnings on the PSE full page widget, see the screenshot here:

https://wiki.transitionnetwork.org/File:Noscript-clear-click.png

This was triggered on this page:

http://dev.transitionsheffield.org/projects/

NoScript links here to explain the issue:

http://noscript.net/faq#clearclick
