Transition Technology: Ticket #144: subscriptions: sending stuff people don't want

The subscriptions engine is out of control. Users are getting updates on things they are not subscribed to, so then can't unsub - some e.gs:

Nicole Brammy - http://www.transitionnetwork.org/people/nicole-brammy - set to 0 subs - getting updates on 'Comment for Transition Network News: Transition and The Big Society - workshop review' among others

Josiah Meldrum - http://www.transitionnetwork.org/people/josiah-meldrum - getting all manner of updates

Test User1 - https://www.transitionnetwork.org/user/5861/notifications/subscriptions - getting updates for 'Update for Pattern: Post petroleum Stress Disorder' to which it's not subbed

as well as this, when user (nicole brammy) follows the 'unsub' link from the (unwanted) sub email alert, she gets 'access denied' whether she is logged in or not. This is not a surprise I guess as she isn't actually subbed to that item, but needs sorting.

Hmmm...... odd.

Have you been in here? https://www.transitionnetwork.org/admin/messaging/subscriptions/admin

The site is set to 'autosubscribe' people to the nodes/conversations they comment on... Could that be the cause?

I checked that and she definitely had not commented on the Big Society thread...

this is still ongoing: from mike:
I'd like to get an email when new content
is added to the TN website but can't see how to do it.

I set up one for 'network news' using 'create a new subscription:
Content type in group
but when I try to go back and add more categories it tells me:
There are no active group subscriptions available.

Ancient and Message modules have all changed a lot since then... Closing, reopen if needed.
