Transition Technology: Ticket #238: Location data for transition near me search

Countries for whom the transition near me search is not working:
Canada
Australia
(there will be more)

We will need to add their postcode database (like Jim did for USA?)...

status
                changed from new to assigned

UK and USA has lots of postcode records in the DB already...

I have now imported Australia and Germany's records...

Canada, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal and Netherlands have no such database file in the Location module... We're going to need to track these down, or build our own...

Note that Belgium, Switzerland, India and Norway have files and could be imported if needs be.

So, in approximate order of need, we have to find zipcodes.xx.mysql files for...

Canada
France
Italy
Spain
Portugal
Netherlands

owner
              changed from jim to ed

priority
                changed from critical to major

What do you reckon? We might be able to find these zipcodes files - or we may not...

I'm wondering how other sites using drupal handle it.

Try:

Canada
France
Italy

See how you go...

hours
                changed from 0.0 to 0.25

Canada: http://drupal.org/node/255995 -- list of postcodes and some patches...

messy.

France is all over the shop

Ditto Italy.

HOWEVER: It appears that recent patches to the Location module have enabled proper geocoding of addresses/postcodes without the need for these data files.

SO: I need to do a diff on the new Dev version of the module compared to what we have to see if the new patches will do the trick without us losing the extras I've added over the last 18 months.

More soon

Diff done on my machine, Location and Gmap modules both fully up to date with TN special sauce...

Now just waiting on Git work so this can be pushed live... #364

All pushed live, Location and GMap should now be better at finding people's locations...
