hours
                changed from 0.0 to 0.17

totalhours
                changed from 0.0 to 0.17

I found this:

2011-07-06 16:18:01 1QeTrU-0001Jm-2J ** site@transitionnetwork.org R=dnslookup T=remote_smtp: SMTP error from remote mail server after RCPT TO:<site@transitionnetwork.org>: host mx1.spamfiltering.com [212.113.130.124]: 550 no mailbox by that name is currently available

If this is the address that email shoul be going to then the problem is at the mx1.spamfiltering.com end not our end...

I also go the same with a test email to that address:

<site@transitionnetwork.org>: host mx1.spamfiltering.com[72.249.150.158] said:

hmm. that's as it should be actually - not chasing united up yet... see:

the mails I am not receiving are system mails from site@transitionnetwork (which works sending the mails to other editors) to edmitchell@….

conference2010 email doesn't exist so bounce is fine.

the mails I am not receiving are system mails from site@transitionnetwork

Right, the web site is trying to send to site@ and the mailserver at mx1.spamfiltering.com is rejecting them:

Jul 7 14:14:04 webmail postfix/smtp[24016]: 3D87B2001DC: to=<site@transitionnetwork.org>, relay=mx1.spamfiltering.com[212.113.130.124]:25, delay=0.47, delays=0.13/0.04/0.17/0.13, dsn=5.0.0, status=bounced (host mx1.spamfiltering.com[212.113.130.124] said: 550 no mailbox by that name is currently available (in reply to RCPT TO command))

spam filter problems with email service providers.

No, their mail server doesn't think that site@ is a valid address, "no mailbox by that name is currently available".

will chase them up.

I can't think of anything else to do -- the problem isn't at our end.

hold on I think there's a bit of confusion here - the editors receive emails *from* site@… which work fine - see below. I am admin and editor and am not receiving the same mail.

From: Transition Network (site@…)
To: Fiona Ward
Sent: Wednesday, July 06, 2011 3:17 PM
Subject: Transition Network: New resource posted for moderation

Not sure this has anything to do with the mail hosts - no they don't host 'site@…' - that is run off the site on WA servers, no? Therefore problem is elsewhere - is it anything to do with me having admin and site editor roles? or other reason why site is not sending me resource updates.

I haven't received any updates for some time now I think about it...

Ahh, OK, which email address of yours are these emails supposed to arrive at? If I know this I can do some more testing.

All I can think of is that they are not being accepted because the sender address doesn't exist, in fact what I'm seeing in the maillog is probably bounces.

I suspect that your email filters / mail provider might be rejecting emails from site@ because site@ doesn't work...?

Incoming site@ email would have to be set up with mx1.spamfiltering.com -- we can't set this up at our end.

The site sends all system emails from 'site@…'. Erm, Drupal just sends the mail. It's not a Drupal issue.

I expect it's because others have marked some messages from site@… as spam, and Ed's ISP has an itchy spam trigger finger.

I assume there's a mailbox or forward for site@... to something else, like office@ or info@? There should be!

Bingo!

But this isn't the problem -- the problem is email like this, sent by the web server:

To: edmitchell@transitionnetwork.org
From: site@transitionnetwork.org

And I tried sending a email like this manually and he got it OK...

Of course accepting site@… emails would probably be a good idea... It could be an alias for webproject@ or something?

owner
              changed from jim to ed

status
                changed from new to assigned

A lack of actual working reply address for site@ implies spamminess to many, I'd have thought.

The only other things to do, apart from waiting and/or contacting the spam blocker, is to make the email look less spammy. Not sure how, the editor's name isn't available as a token unfortunately.

This isn't my realm really, reassigning to Ed for some good old-fashioned project management voodoo.

ticket raised with UNITED about their spam protection.

How can we prove that the site is sending alert mails to me? I want to see proof that drupal is sending them.

There's not much in the watchdog except a few "initiative updated" ones this: https://www.transitionnetwork.org/admin/reports/event/1762160 which says you got sent an email by Rules to edmittance@…... But that's to your @transitionnetwork.org email.

There's a custom rule that sends the emails, and it's set to send to all users with 'editor role'... If the others are getting them then you should be.

Do the email logs show the messages going from site@ to edmitchell@, Chris?

haven't had any site mails today but noted in the spam configurator that the spam software was rejecting the mails - also whitelisted the domain - but raised it with united, who said the following - so can I simply set up a 'site@…' mail and that would sort it? :

The domain transitionnetwork.org is setup in the stingray server and the from address of the mail is site@…. So, when the receiving server verify the sender (as a measure against spamming ), it will look for the site@ mail address in the local server and since no such mail account is setup in UH server verification fails. You will need to setup a valid from addess to fix this.
