How does the transitionnetwork.org drupal site relate to list-manage.com / mailchimp.com ?

Is this a service that has to be paid for?

Can the Network consider, at some point, using free software, specifically phplist and also consider offering this as a service to Transition projects / groups?

http://www.phplist.com/

There is plenty of capacity to run phplist on penguin...

There is a MailChimp? module which uses their API to manage subscriptions etc. I've disabled it on the test site as a precaution.

And PHPList is dreadful. It was until recently abandoned, and has been the source of the only ever hack on a site (I took over) I ever got hit by. Mailchimp blows it out of the water in terms of capability, usability and performance. It's free up to 2000 subscribers too.

I'd be happy to consider/support other free mailing list software, but not PHPList. There are many better solutions from within Drupal (see http://drupal.org/node/645108) or Wordpress (I assume) that provide great integration and good usability.

Ed: Simply that someone or him is requesting to be unsubscribed. I can't see how it would happen on its own. Maybe "transitionrye@…" has several people in that inbox and one of them are doing it.

Anyone else have this? If not it's most likely a user thing.

It's an odd one - they were unsubscribed, re-subscribed, then unsubscribed again. The machine only thinks they unsubbed on one occasion. I am in conversation with user. We'll see. I don't think that they have a user account on TN.org so it's solely mailchimp issue afaik.
