hours
                changed from 0.0 to 1.8

totalhours
                changed from 0.0 to 1.8

I've given Ben 1:45hrs of support this afternoon. We've basically pinpointed the problem, can work around it, but don't know how to resolve it.

The problem seems to be happening at the level of his Mac's basic networking systems. Apache is running fine, and we can access it using the local IP address directly (eg. http://127.0.0.1/transitiondev). The problem with this is that Drupal will have to run in a directory, rather than a proper apache virtual host (the ideal is something like http://transitiondev.local). The net result is that this will make it much harder to work with Drupal's file system from within the CMS - which may or may not affect the work Ben is currently trying to do.

As I said, we've got one or two methods for working around this problem - so it may not slow Ben down too much. But as we got onto the vagaries of Mac networking settings, I stopped being the best person to help as I really don't know much about that.

Ben may choose to reinstall his Mac, now that he understands the issues better, and see if that helps at all. Beyond that, if more support is needed, I think it would be more cost effective for the Transition Network to fund specific Mac expertise local to Ben.

Once/if the problem *is* resolved and his networking settings stop misbehaving, Ben now knows how to set up virtual hosts with MAMP.

status
                changed from new to closed

resolution
                set to fixed

Closing for now as it's done and invoiced :)
