International IRS and strategy discussion meeting 3rd September Skype

Filipa Ben Ed

ACTIONS Ed provide Ben with workflow diagrams in powerpoint presentation Ed put Jim in direct contact with Ben while Ed on holiday to brief/support/coach Ben Ben/Filipa?: confirm strategic information/tech direction for national hubs and information Ben/Filipa?: try to find and confirm one country to trial the IIRS in a beta at the national hubs meeting

Background: ~ Big picture proposal: http://www.transitionnetwork.org/blogs/ed-mitchell/2013-08/web-strategy-big-picture-explanation

Tactical - IIRS - workflows: http://www.transitionnetwork.org/blogs/ed-mitchell/2013-08/international-initiative-registration-service-workflows

Meeting notes: ~

  1. Get clarification on the proposal
  2. See if the national hubs would be interested
  3. Ben/Filipa? - are they happy to share this with the national hubs
  4. What Ed and Jim want
  5. Budgets
  1. Clarification - anything can be clarified?

Drupal 6 and 7 operating at the same time?

  • yes
  • data will be synchronised between two sites
  • drupal 7 will be the local site which will be the widget which will show in the national hub site

Don't want to dictate anything

  • key goal of web project - develop an international initiative directory
  • this has been identified by the hubs at an early meeting
  • Ben feels that tech integration will be welcomed

-- bigger picture will be happy

  • Filipa - this position is general from the hubs - strategic vision

-- only key issue - other systems --- sweden, brazil, germany, us - incumbent systems -- would lead to separate conversation track

What systems to use - For new hubs - there is a live question -

  • this is a good moment to have that conversation
  • there will be 1 hour on IT - with hub technical people

Democratic model:

  • This tech proposal also has significant power structure suggestions

-- TN not as the top of a decision making pyramid - being part of a growing International tech and data group sharing decisions --- this fits int0 with TN's ongoing discussions around power and responsibility on friday meeting

  1. National hubs interested?

There is already a political agreement that having a international initiatives directory is the way to go - so the strategic goal is agreed Tactically - there will be key doubts because of systems in use already - so there will be some work at a 'lower' level over the next few years

  1. Ben and Filipa - happy?

Makes sense for them

  • Ben need a presentation and pictures to talk about
  • demo would be fantastic
  • Ben going to need some coaching

-- Jim will be in direct with Ben to help coach -- Docs will be in wiki: https://tech.transitionnetwork.org/trac/wiki/IIRS -- Ed will provide Ben with powerpoint of the screengrabs

Sharing in advance

  • now? or at meet?
  • in a dossier before the meet?
  • AGREED: both will share the information in some form in a bigger dossier before the meet (tbc)
  1. What do Ed and Jim want?

~

  1. Approval and/or discussion of strategy and tactical idea (IIRS)
  2. country to do a beta trial

What is needed from a country? Administrator (and colleague if suitable) from a settled national hub (i.e. a group with established identity and processes) will need to be able to:

  • translate the language that the widget uses in its workflow
  • embed a widget into the national hub website
  • respond to emails when initiatives are added
  • moderate applications for initiative applications (simple 'confirm'/'deny' option - NOT a power based thing, just for spam/sense checking)
  1. Budgets

~

  • £7K budget to get to beta product with one country
  • this will inform us

-- cost to produce another language -- administrative roles and responsibilities -- any design changes that are suitable
