Sorry for the delay in responding -- I'm on holiday with a very limited internet connection.

I have added your root@transition public key to your ~/.ssh/authorized_keys files (which contained a sam@bristolwireless.net public key), so you should be able to ssh sam@parrot.transitionnetwork.org without a password.
