ah yes, slightly embarrassing error on my part - we need the user navigation on the /user homepage so they can see the links to add content... please re-instate the user nav on /user

How about this instead:
New ticket: Make /user a panels page...
- Intro text telling about TN near me +
- Page has an explano text block saying this is the account, edit here.
- Also has Profile block that links straight to their profile/edit etc with instructions
- Includes nav menu block that's been removed
- other blocks as needed.
- could have version for visitors to the user page (non current user) with different things...
A follow up ticket would do similar tidying/improvements the same for /people/<name> pages...
IMHO the user and person profile pages are a bit of a mess - could certinaly use a tidy, so my point here is to ask this question:
What should the user (and people) pages look like, ideally?

yes. good points well made. will do the /user/ and /people/ tickets on the train.
this ticket specifically asked about node editing pages however, /node/... not the /user pages, so the disappeearing nav menu block on /user was a surprise.
therefore if it is possible, can you re-instate the nav menu block on /user while I do the more elegant change request to /user and /people?

Yes indeed! Meant to do that last night but got carried away with the possibilities!
Oh the possibilities!
