Given sam overview of how the local/staging/prod/git thing process that I use to get changes implemented, and some idea of the problems I had and offered him support if he needs it (with hope as he's installing on a linux machine using vbox so things may be different (easier?) for him).

I'm giving up on the Skype call, sorry it's not working for me :-(
Recording the time spent on it today here, I'll listen to the recording afterwards.
Personally I'd favour us using a free software application for voice conferencing and IRC for text chat, there is #transition on irc.freenode.net.

1.5 h for the BOA/process/Q&A Skype with Nick, Sam, Ben & Jim (and an intermittent Chris at start then tech problems go the better of him)..
I think Sam and Ben have a voice recording of the session, which hopefull can be linked to from this issue.

Started with some background reading before the call to help me really get it all. Feeling semi-confident. I'll aim to try and revisit this again soon and try some things (safely) in aegir just to cement it - once jim sends passwords.
Uploading hour long file to my dropbox now. Will be an an mp3. Will add link here in a bit when it's up.

just a thought... when Sam cloned the staging site... no one did anything about stopping it from sending email. am I right? looking now.... ignore that, logged in and checked, all the modules that do notifications on the staging were already unticked... which of course they would have been - silly - cos it was a close of the STG site. doh.

@benj -- Yes I disabled those manually when I cloned PROD a few days back. There's also reroute email installed that stops the site sending mails anywhere expect a catch-all email address.
Adding my time for setting up user accounts in Aegir, and a new TN client that all the sites are now owned by.

I have had a chat with Nick about stuff in IRC and I have created an account for him (following wiki:TracUserAdmin), his username is planetlarg so you need to use this name for ticket CC's etc

I have created a user account on puffin for Sam and added him to the sudo group:
adduser sam adduser sam --add_extra_groups sudo
And I have uploaded his ssh public key.
Sam you should be able to ssh in and sudo -i and change your own password -- it's currently set to a very long random one.

Sam and I explored the file system layout and tested the relationship between command line drush and the admin module list.
