Ed hasn't been getting notifications for new comments.

This sounds like a Drupal level issue rather than a email server level issue -- let me know if you think it's a mail server issue and I'll start grepping log files.

It looks to be working fine to me, a email was sent to Ed as the blog author and also to the other person who had posted a comment.

If there are some specific comments that didn't generate emails I could look in the mail log for what email were sent at the same time that the comment was posted.

It might be worth checking the site@… IMAP account, although rejected emails shouldn't end up there as we don't have the ​Contact Reply-To module installed, see ticket:737#comment:4, there might be some indication of any problems there.

Without getting a email from a comment on a blog post I'm not sure what the envelope is set to, I assume it's set to the email address of the posting account, this is the case with the contact form, see ticket:737#comment:5.

Would it be worth me creating a blog post and then someone commenting on it so I can get a email to check all the headers?

Following is a list of all the emails Ed has been sent by the server in the last month, you should be able to check you inbox for the message ID's to see if any are missing, for example a log entry like this:

it has been shown already that at least some comment notifications are working so we need a repeatable issue. shall i email Ed to ask him why he thinks he is not receiving email alerts so he can point us towards a specific comment?

I suspect this isn't an issue with the website, I suggest that when Ed is back he checks the list of Message-Id's I posted in ticket:746#comment:5 against his inbox and if there are some that he hasn't got that he contacts United Communications Ltd to ask them to check their logs to see what happened to the missing emails.

If Ed does have all the emails that were sent then it could be an issue with Drupal not generating the emails and we can look at how to duplicate that.

Does that sound like a plan?
